Kodiak Culture & History Tour

An excellent introduction to Kodiak, enjoy engaging stories of saints and sinners, earthquakes and eruptions. Discover contemporary stories as well as some from the archives we visit National Historic Landmarks and community touchstones. Your guide is an accomplished storyteller and has worked with both the Kodiak History Museum and the Kodiak Maritime Museum for over 20 years combined. This signature tour will reveal what is special about Kodiak in a memorable and meaningful way.

Harbor Tour

Delve deep into the world of the Alaska Commercial Fisherman. The second largest commercial fishing port in the country is bustling with activity year round. Come learn about what we harvest and how. Learn about the gear, processing, history and lifestyle.  Hear stories of booms and busts, earthquakes and tsunamis, and survival and loss at sea. We will visit boats in the harbor, pass canneries with a chance to see them offloading catch and end the tour at the Fisherman’s Memorial where you can try on a survival suit.  Your guide has worked as a commercial fisherman, has helped manage and research several Kodiak fisheries and owned an international seafood company. You will leave with an understanding and appreciation for what goes into bringing the best seafood to the table.

Kodiak Rainforest Hike

Just a short drive from town will deliver you to the quiet mossy trails of Fort Abercrombie. You will be guided through emerald forests, flower meadows, lily padded lakes, beaches and rolling sea cliffs. Depending on the time of year, you might watch puffins nesting in the cliffs, sea otters wrapping babies in kelp, whales passing through or eagles watching for their next meal. Stop and explore a tide pool with anemones and crabs. Perhaps you’ll pick some salmonberries or blueberries as you hear tales of the famous Kodiak grizzly bears that wander these woods. Enjoy a gorgeous trail walk with a naturalist who will share stories along your hike. End your hike at the WWII bunkers on the cliff. 

Tastes and Tales of the Sea -Food Tour

After exploring the docks and hearing tales of the king crab boom days on our Tales of the Sea Harbor Walking Tour, we will wrap up with some spectacular local seafood treats at the brewery.

Follow closely as we explore historic cemeteries and unearth the stories within. Ghost stories, murders, and mysteries will greet us around each corner as we weave our tales from the cemeteries to important touchpoints to haunted establishments! 

Ethnobotany Discovery Walks

From wicked to wonderful, join me on the trail as we discover the uses of Kodiak’s wild plants. Did you know you could make soda pop from elderberry flowers? Or what pretty purple flower is deadly enough to kill a whale? This two to three hour walk will help you learn the stories of several of Kodiak’s useful plants. 

Kodiak Crafted Cocktail Events

Discover the art of the crafted cocktail. Enjoy an intimate and engaging evening with a personal mixologist, learning to pair unique Kodiak flavors with innovative techniques. This fun and interactive experience will teach you about the tools as you create and recreate some distinctly Kodiak libations All along your journey you’ll be introduced to the culture of our island to which these cocktails pay homage. Cocktails will also be demonstrated and celebrated. 

Historic Bars of Kodiak 

Taste a bit of Kodiak’s history as you hear tales of wilder days. Enjoy libations as we visit the oldest bar in Alaska and several others with colorful pasts.
